Over the weekend, Lac du Flambeau will be the home of a jiu-jitsu seminar, a pankration seminar, and a Benefit Open MMA Tournament that will hold separate competitions for karate, jiu-jitsu, and pankration.

Sanctioned by Team USA Pankration, and put together by USAFPA President Dave Sixel, this weekend’s activities will be split between Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, February 5, the Lac du Flambeau Youth Center will host the pankration and jiu-jitsu seminar.  The seminar, which will be taught by Sixel and Doug Moore, will begin at 6 p.m. and last until 9 p.m.  The weigh-ins for Saturday’s tournaments will also be held on Friday night.

On Saturday morning, registration and additional weigh-ins for the Benefit Open MMA Tournament will begin at 9 a.m.  In order to accommodate a larger number of people, Saturday’s action will take place at the Lac Du Flambeau Grade School.

Three separate disciplines, karate, gi and no gi jiu-jitsu, and gi and no gi pankration competitions will all be completed on Saturday.

While not yet determined, age and weight divisions will be announced on Saturday morning.  The karate competition will begin first, jiu-jitsu will occur second, and the pankration tournament will conclude the weekend’s activities.

The entry fee for Saturday’s action is as follows: participation in only one event is $25 with each additional event costing another $5.  Spectators for the events are encouraged and costs only $5.  All proceeds from Saturday's tournament will be donated to the Lac du Flambeau Youth Center.
