In a statement released late Monday night, the USFC announced that the Green Bay Packer Hall of Famer will become the New Business Development Director for the USFC. In regards to his new career move, Brown expressed his feelings towards MMA.
“While football will always be very special to me, I see how excited people get about MMA. I love watching it any chance I get. I feel this is a great opportunity for me to get involved.”
The addition of Brown adds yet another reputable face to the USFC and Wisconsin MMA in general. According to Roufus, the Wisconsin fan favorite will be a welcome addition to the staff and also create a number of new possibilities.
“This opens new doors for the USFC and creates greater opportunities,” said Roufus. “Gilbert’s been coming to our shows for quite a while now, but I never thought we’d be in a business relationship like this…This is a win-win for everyone, especially the fans.”
In March, the USFC is scheduled to make its promotional debut. “Stand Your Ground” will be held at the Wisconsin State Fair, and feature what may be the most star studded card in state history. While not yet complete, the event already is scheduled to feature five veterans of the UFC and WEC.
According to Joffe, the USFC plans on putting together major shows in areas that the bigger organizations tend to ignore.
“We’re happy being the farm league so-to-speak,” said Joffe. “Who do you see at that level in other sports? The best there ever will be and the best there ever was. That’s the roll the USFC intends to play. Fans worldwide will enjoy the exciting bouts matchmakers are putting together.”
While the most talented fighters in the world will be showcased in organizations such as the UFC or Strikeforce, the USFC would like to be the promotion that fighters participate on immediately before heading to the major leagues.
“We want to be the organization that feeds the best up and coming MMA talent to the UFC and the WEC,” said Roufus. “ I have nothing but respect for what they have accomplished and enjoy a great relationship with everyone at the UFC and WEC.”
While the USFC intends on creating the most professional atmosphere possible, the accumulation of Brown should help them to reach a new fan base. As well as being known for his Green Bay Packer playing days, Brown has also been involved with the Milwaukee Mile, Milwaukee Bonecrushers, and the La Crosse Spartans.
“MMA has the potential to be bigger than anything out there and I’m very excited,” said Brown. “I trust Scott and Duke 200 percent in what they have planned for the USCS. It’s a great idea that’s going to showcase a whole new crop of talent. We have some great ideas that we’ll be rolling out over the next few weeks and months. I’m excited and MMA fans across the country should be too.”

The sport of mixed martial arts is continually becoming more and more mainstream; the most recent example of this came from Duke Roufus and Scott Joffe, who have announced a partnership between the United States Fighting Championship and Gilbert Brown.
