First reported by mmajunkie.com, the World Extreme Cagefighting organization has announced that Anthony “Showtime” Pettis will meet Danny Castillo at “WEC 47: Bowles vs. Cruz”.
The event is scheduled for March 6 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. While the bout is currently slotted for the preliminary card, Wisconsin fans know that any match with “Showtime” has a great possibility of being televised.
Pettis will enter the March bout with a professional record of 8-1. Armed with an electric arsenal, the Roufusport fighter has evolved into one of the state’s biggest fan favorites.
After starting his career 8-0, including a victory over Mike Campbell in the WEC, Pettis suffered a rash of injuries that postponed a number of fights. Upon his return, the Milwaukee native suffered a controversial split-decision loss to Bart Palaszewski at WEC 45.
In March, “Showtime” will get a chance to get back on the winning track when he meets Danny “Last Call” Castillo. Similarly to Pettis, Castillo began his career at 8-1, and is also looking to bounce back from a recent loss.
After a submission loss to Shane Roller at WEC 44, the 30-year-old Ultimate Fitness fighter will enter his matchup with Pettis at 8-2. The only other loss on his resume came against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in June of 2008.
The March matchup with Castillo is extremely important for Pettis. Before his loss to Palaszewski, “Showtime” was on a short list of possible title contenders. With a decisive victory over an experienced opponent at WEC 47, he will move ever closer to a potential shot at a championship.
