jakekuesterOver the weekend, Gerald Meerschaert III sat cornering his Agallar Combative Systems teammates at WNCC in Fond du Lac; little did he know, two hours away in Baraboo, fellow welterweight Jacob Kuester was doing his best at getting Meerschaert an upcoming title fight.

At the same time that Mike Biddle’s WNCC was transpiring, John Lipke was holding his own promotion at Ho-Chunk Casino in Baraboo.

The Extreme Cage-Fighting Organization put on an exciting night of fights on Saturday in which Floyd Hodges won his first professional title, James Warfield had to hold on for a tough victory against Jay Ellis, and Tavares Hunter used a tight triangle to earn a shot at the organization’s welterweight title in January.

Unfortunately, much of the talk after the event has focused on the antics of Jake Kuester rather than the well matched card.  According to a number of sources from the event, Kuester became noticeably inebriated and acted in a way that one person called, “Junie Browning like”.

Prior to the event itself, ECO promoter Lipke told WCS that the winner between Tavares Hunter and Eddie Larrea would meet Kuester in January.  With Hunter winning the matchup, Kuester was brought into the cage in order promote the fight.  A quick stare down ensued and the two were escorted out of the cage quickly because of Kuester’s state.

But his behavior would only digress throughout the night.  According to reports, after Kuester had performed his duties in the cage, he began to drink more heavily and became disruptively intoxicated.  Witnesses reported that Kuester later entered the cage and challenged anyone to “(expletive) fight me right now.”

After the outbursts, Kuester was removed from cage side and taken out of the arena.  Around an hour after the show ended, Kuester was approached by Lipke and told to “go to his room and sleep it off.”

According to a source, Kuester “trashed the entire room, pretty much breaking every single thing…”  Because of the incident the ECO is undoubtedly in a bit of a tough situation in accordance to future shows.

“I’m not angry at him,” Lipke said.  “I understand that guys get drunk, but I’m very disappointed that a fighter of his caliber would embarrass me and our organization like that.  As of right now, I have no intentions of bringing him back.”

Lipke and Nick Agallar have confirmed that Gerald Meerschaert has accepted an invitation to fight Tavares Hunter on January 16, at the next ECO event.  This late breaking news inexplicably explains that Kuester’s antics have cost him a chance in the ECO, and maybe even in other organizations.

According to Lipke, Kuester has been kicked out of Roufusport Academy. Wisconsin Combat Sports has been unable to reach Kuester and his Roufusport camp since the news broke.

“That is a tough lesson to learn,” said Lipke.  “The guy was at an amazing gym with the world at his fingertips.  Because of this situation, the ECO has a no tolerance policy on actions like this.  I understand that guys want to party, but not in the limelight of the show.  We want our guys to act the way that Floyd Hodges and Tavares Hunter did.  They acted like true gentleman all night and brought honor to our sport.”

Lot of guys doing dumb stuff this year, this still is not as bad as the things Kleiman and Goodman have been accused of but a black eye none the less.

My opinion: Everyone makes mistakes. I've never met Jake, but I'm sure that alcohol played a large part...we've all fallen into bad situations because of booze, but the way to rebound is by showing your true character. I believe that Jake has hit an unexpected rough patch, but he can prove his real character. I'm ready to see the real Jake.

Wow. Jake has fought for me several times and I've always viewed him as one of the more professional guys I've dealt with. Never had an issue with him. I was totally shocked reading this. I feel bad for Jake, ECO, & Roufusport, one night of bad judgement causes a ton of problems that last a long time. I hope he gets some help and gets things sorted out. He will have to work hard to gain everyone's trust back.

I was suprised by this myself. I've known Jacob for about a year now and he is a great guy. Very professional. I think it was the alcohol, because he doesn't act like this, not cocky, very good natured. I think he's just one of those guys that has to stay away from alcohol because it changes his personality too much. Unfortunately, this is how some guys learn it. I hope Roufus Sport would consider taking him back at some time in the future. He has the potential to be a really good fighter.
