dyuh You show me one otherroom that regularly hosts as much talent as DRA and then you can talk shit. There are alot of other gyms in WI that have alot of talent, I won't argue that. Only a hand full have had atheles in the big shows and no one has had more than one at a time, much less four at one time. Duke and his guys have put in alot of hard time to build their gym to this level and have earned this type of coverage. I find it hard to believe that you have respect for Duke when in the same breath you say you respect him, you trash him for getting coverage and liken him to Don KIng. In Closing...stfu troll |

... Wow. I aint talking shit about him or his gym. All I'am saying is that when you read alot of stuff on this site it is all about duke. Congrads on 4 ufc fighters, that is great. Maybe I should of put this on a differant area on this site. Where is the props for adrians serranos gym, or any karate school, or henary matamoros, white trash school. This site is called WISCONSIN COMBAT SPORTS. I know karate schools aint getting any props on this site but when did duke ever fight MMA. He didnt but he is god right! Adrian and henary fought in the ufc or fought a ufc fighter and own gyms and they get no love like duke does! Sorry duke, It is just the way I feel. You are great I know, but you are not the only......... |

... Clearly Mike you have no idea what you're talking about... I could repeat all the things that the previous posts state but there's no need. If you have trained / been involved in MMA in WI for more than 1 hr then you'd know that 1 of duke students doesn't run this site. And one-sided is spelled like that, also your capitalization reminds me of ee cummings |

... Actually this is the only Roufus related article in the last 16 (other than Pat Barry being on the radio show). They cover fights and gyms all over the state including the "white trash school" four articles down. What are you looking at? |

... Mike I think you have to give credit when credit is due! It is like college football. You have division 1,2,and 3. Duke is division 1. When you served your time of training and travling and working as hard as he did he is in that division 1 status. The media will give those schools time before any d-2 or d-3 school. I keep working hard with my school to get to that d-1 status like duke and a couple of other schools.Duke is a great guy bro! When my school first came to mma-gladiators, he was asking how we were doing during the fights and how we liked gladiators. He really looked out for us that night. I can call him any time for advice. I really do think he wants team knockout to succeed. Some day bro I hope I have 1 ufc fighter neverless 4. MMA in wisconsin will be ok the smaller schools just have to train that much harder to that elite status. Good luck to all MMA school's and fighhter's in wisconsin. See all you guys soon. O yea and dont talk about duke in MMA cause I think he would come out of retirement and than we would never be able to win a heavy-weight belt in wisconsin because of duke winning it. Thanks Jesse-Team Knockout..... |

... These four guys are fighting at the highest level of competition against some of the top fighters in the world. That's a good enough reason to get a write-up or coverage. Who has Mike "The Real Deal" Thomas fought? Your not even listed on Sherdog. Maybe there should be an article about your fighting career or martial arts resume because I'd sure like to know about it so I can get a good laugh in. Plenty of the Wisconsin's top pros from all over the state have had write-ups and interviews because they step up and fight top-level competition including Nick Agallar (ACS), Jameel Massouh (Strasser's), Gerald Meerschaert (ACS), Lah Thao (Rising Sun), Pat O'Malley (Chosen Few), Sam Alvey (Metz), James Warfield (Chosen Few), Caleb Nelson (Panoply), Brian Geraghty (Strasser's), Mark Severtson (Badgerland), in addition to Roufusport fighters and many others who I forgot to list that have had interviews and articles written about them. I don't want to read about ammy fighters because they don't deserve the coverage yet. I want to read about the guys who are stepping up to the plate and that want to fight the best and make a name for themselves whether it be on a state, regional, national, or international level. Become one of those guys and you or your teammates will get the coverage and attention. If you are going to whine, at least do a little research first so it's not so easy to refute your weak arguments. If you are able to even accomplish half of what any of the guys in the pictures above have done so far in their careers I'd love to read about it. I wouldn't bet on it happening though as you'll be to busy complaining instead of training. |

... I just started mma fighting. Iam a black belt in kepo. So I was only doing karate classes. I really was not trying to talk bad about duke. What I was trying to say is that we have to get all the gyms on this site props. There is a fight this weekend in waukesha-hard knocks new blood where is it? The website for dukes gym is milwaukee mma. What is that! There is alot of mma schools in milwaukee. I train at choles for about 12 years now and never seen a karate school on this site. I want to fight mma but not if it is one-sided and that is how alot of us feel and that is why you have not seen us in the cage. You guys are trying to attack me by calling me names, wow you guys are real winners. Believe me when I say this Iam not the only one that feels that duke wants to be the only SUPER-STAR mma school around. Yes he wants mma school to come around but only for his guys to beat up on and if they cant than he want them to be with his gym. (Iam wrong) Where did red start and was with for many years. If he wanted stand up Iam sure henary would of got someone. That is just one fighter there is more in there. |

... Mike, you aren't helping yourself at all. I would recommend you STFU. You're only digging yourself a deeper hole. Duke, please put him on one of your shows against one of your ammys. He'll then understand how elite your fighters are. |

... the fights in Waukesha on Saturday are at Center Court...check the website hardknocksfights.com You should talk about being one-sided, Mike. Only attacking Duke?? Complaining about nothing on here on karate schools?? Try being more open-minded, especially if you are trying to get into MMA. It's more of a well-rounded sport than one-sided, start early to avoid bad habits in the future. |

... You talking about me??? I started training Muay Thai in November 1996 under Ben Salas in 1996 (before I ever did BJJ). Ben was under Duke Roufus. I moved to Milwaukee in 2001 and immediately signed up at Duke's. I quit MMA for over 3 years and didn't do any striking. When I got back into MMA, I started training with Duke again in 2006 and he has been my only striking coach (and Scott Cushman). Other than my original group at UW-Oshkosh (Slade Martin, Tony DeDolph, etc.), Roufusport has been the only MMA team I have been a member of... I have trained BJJ with many groups over the years, and met some amazing grapplers, but when I was serious about MMA I went to Duke because he was the best striking coach around. Henry's BJJ school was never an MMA gym, so get your facts straight... PS There are some amazing MMA teams in the state that I would love to be on their teams if I was in their city instead of Milwaukee (Strasser's, Chosen Few, ACS, etc.). They produce some great guys that I read about on here all the time. Even some of the guys from the up-and-coming smaller schools (Alvey, Thao, etc.) get their press when the win big fights. Hell, our gym loses to gyms from all over the state all the time. If you or your school want press, then make some press-win fights! |

... Facts straight? When where you at henarys? When you were in fondu lac in the late 90s and on brewer hill right? Henary was fighting mma and could of got you places cause he was fighting - MMA- guys like spencer(the king) fisher and others. You know he could of got you a striking coach. I did a little training at uwm with henary he is a great coach that should of got some ufc credit for your jiu jitsu. I would ever turn my back on my master like you did.... |

... I trained BJJ at Henry's in Milwaukee from 2001 til 2007, not MMA. I did my early MMA from 97-01 at UW-Oshkosh with guys like Slade Martin and Tony DeDolph. When I moved here I did not train MMA & neither did Henry. He did not train even MMA for the Spencer Fisher fight, he would train gi bjj a few times per week go out there & fight. Occassionally some of us got together on the side and sparred, but that was on our own time, ask anyone... There is a reason "ALL" his guys that do MMA cross train at Duke's, and that reason is that they don't do MMA at Henry's. Omar, Kaz, Ryan, Dave K, etc. all either cross train at Duke's or only train there for fights... Because it is a BJJ school only (a good school for BJJ, not MMA). And Henry is not my "master" and never has been my "master". 99% of the BJJ I learned was either from videos, seminars, or sharing technique with teammates. I have had a lot people show me some great techniques over the years including Henry, Jon Friedland, Justin Morris, Bill Krieg, Ben Salas, Scott Huston, etc. Henry owned a gym and had some amazing guys come through there, but my "masters" are Mario Sperry, Marcelo Garcia, and Saulo Riberio dvds. There is a reason I and everyone else left there... |

come on man im sure if anyone talked to henry he'd not have a problem with duke. i was at his open mat this year, and i saw many people from dukes. i think if you spent less time on here bitching, and more time going to the events, youd see that mma schools, for the most part, all get along and have respect for each other. obviously both red and henry have done a lot for bjj in wisconsin. and if you talk to anyone who knows anything about mma/bjj, theyd say that the 2 gyms you gotta check out in milwaukee are dukes and henrys. personally i go to acs, but i consider our team to be friends with dukes, henrys, the madtown guys, metzs club, and many more. they have done great things for my teammates. both madtown and duke have given gerald title shots. as geralds teammate(and human punching bag) i am thankful for them giving him that opportunity. when it all comes down to it, at the end of the day, the only people that can understand us fighters, are other fighters. fighters stand up for each other, thats just how it goes. thats why you need to get off of this site, cause pretty soon ur going to have every fighter in wisconsin, not liking you...and as someone who has trained with these guys for the past 3.5 years, id say thats a very bad idea. oh and btw good luck to the guys from dukes. you guys are gonna come home with a sweep. congrats on the co-main event big ben. |

... Haha, this is why I try to not post here. Nothing beats somebody who wasn't even there trying to tell me how we trained. LOL... No disrespect to Henry's gym, a lot of good bjj guys train there. Just get the facts straight. I talk to Henry's guys (including his instructors) everyday (some of them are my best friends), but I waisting my time arguing with someone who doesn't even train there... Best wishes to all the WI BJJers and MMAers, I'm out of here. |

... No more bad mouthing, rumors or "whats really going on" talk or you can expect a ban. we are open to covering all Combat Sports. in order to be considered a combat sport the sport must hold organized competitions on a semi regular basis and be of a combative one on one nature. i have never heard of a single karate tournament in the area. i dont doubt they exist but if we dont know about them we cant cover them. we have listed karate seminars in our calendar (some one emailed us the info) before and we have covered Muay Thai, Boxing, Judo, Pankration, Eskrima and other combat sports. |

... I train at both Henrys and Dukes, Red is one of my closest friends as is Henry, I suggest you shut the hell up about things you know nothing about. I don't post here any more because retards like you run rampant. Johnny come lately thinks he knows because somebody said something about something they heard from somebody. You got a lot of nerve bad mouthing Duke and saying he runs this site when in fact the guys who run this damn thing train at Neutral Ground. I don't know you so I know you don't train at Henrys, I doubt Henry needs you to run to his rescue and drag crap up that ancient history, nor would he want you to. Before you decide you are the great white knight of Wi MMA maybe you should act like a grown man and confront those you are smearing like a man face to face. If you want to prove your Karate in the Cage and back up that mouth of yours I'll be your Huckleberry big guy! Ryan Williams Team Matamoros BJJ and Roufusport MMA |

... Seems strange that both Mike real deal thomas & Brian holmes both posted within minutes of each other and agree with one another. Neither capitalizes the first letter of their last name. Both have bad grammar and spelling. Both even spell the exact same word "dam" incorrectly in back to back comments and both spell duke with a lower case "d" instead of a capital "D" in back to back comments. I wouldn't be surprised if we have another case of someone talking to themself again. I'd be interested to see if they have the same IP address. Coincidence? |

What a thread!!! First time posting on this site. I have had the opportunity to train at dukes gym for a few years up until about a year. Some of the stuff that was said in the posts was just insane. I just have to get in a few cents. Duke is loyal to his students and his mentors. I think that the most un-accurate thing I read was "Believe me when I say this Iam not the only one that feels that duke wants to be the only SUPER-STAR mma school around. Yes he wants mma school to come around but only for his guys to beat up on and if they cant than he want them to be with his gym. (Iam wrong)" Success is hard work. All of his guys/gals put in there time, and duke doesn't take recognition for there work. Equally, Duke puts in a ton of hours training with the guys. Not only teaching and mentoring, but learning along with them. I have nothing for props for all of you guys and gals making it happen. Keep up the good work. We all know why people reign supreme in there setting. Because they make it happen, and not just talk hype. |
