eco3On Saturday, Extreme Cage Fighting Organization held its inaugural show at Ho-Chunk Casino in Wisconsin Dells; and on a night that was filled with submission victories, Chris Befera submitted Brian Learn with an Americana in the night's final bout.

Main Event

In a rematch from Konquer the Kage 25 in May, Befera and Learn squared off in the main event of ECO's "End of Summer Smackdown". In their first meeting, Learn was able to use an arm bar to force Befera to submit in the first minute of the first round.

But unlike the first time around, the now more experienced Befera, kept his cool throughout the fight and was able to secure a victory when the opportunity arose. In the middle of round one, Learn had gained full mount over his opponent.

However, Befera was able to beautifully reverse the situation and lock in an Americana. Learn tapped, and according to MixedMartialArts.com, Befera has now won five straight since his debut in May against Learn. The loss evened Learn's record to 6-6-1.

KO of the Night

While Steve Gibson and Shawn Uecker both looked dominant in their fights, it was Jimmy Nelson who would take home WCS' KO of the Night. Nelson delivered a stunning left jab to the face of his opponent Jay Bolton. Bolton immediately dropped, and referee Brock Larson was forced to call the fight before any more damage could be inflicted.

Submission of the Night

Taylor Hartman earned the night's top submission honor with a picture perfect leg triangle that caught Casey Botchen. After the first two rounds went back and forth, Botchen began the third and final round by flinging Hartman against the cage and onto the ground.

But as Botchen pounced on his downed opponent, Hartman was able to grab Bothchen's open neck and force the submission. Hartman's triangle choke happened in an instant.

ECO's first attempt in the MMA game was a success. It delivered a strong card that produced strong fights. It should be interesting to see if fight promoter John Lipke can recreate these results with his second show in October.

Yeah, TJ is right. That was my choice for sub of the night. Befera's Americana was sick, but I just thought that Hartman deserved it because of the way he recovered after getting tossed to the ground. The toss reminded me of the way Tim Boetsch threw David Heath to the ground. Except, Hartman slapped on a triangle instead of getting pounded.

lets get sum stuff right... swiss vs. learn 1, as swiss was rolling out of the armbar the ref stopped it and even KTK said it should not have been stopped, i totally that the refs should protect the fighters... but know what an escape looks like cause that fight was B.S... so saying "In their first meeting, Learn was able to use an arm bar to force Befera to submit in the first minute of the first round." is not correct. nice flying knee tay, to an almost flying triangle.

Well buck - if you look closer on wisconsin combat sports, many things are not correct. You object against the comment about learn's armbar against bafera in may? Learn practically tore his arm from socket that night. Personally i think learn should have tore it right off and hung it up on his mantle at home. Also, to call bafera a more experienced fighter, really? Six fights and suddendly he is experienced? I have watched many other fighters (real fighters) pour there heart and sole out in that cage and show some real talent and experience. Why all of a sudden is everyone all over baferas nuts for a couple simple fights? I have to give it to bafera for his win against learn. It is rare to see a new fighter catch someone as talented as learn who might i add is not 6-6-1, he is now 15-8-2. Now that is experience. I cannot wait to see him dismantle bafera at the t*tle fight in may!

All we ask is that you please dont infect this website with your stupidity. The ref beat Befera in the first fight and Befera destroyed Learn in the second. This fight didn't even get out of the first round. If Learn hadn't submitted he would have pins holding his arm together right now. I will agree, though, Learn is tough and talented - two out of three aint bad. Befera is tough, talented and smart...I have yet to see another fighter have all three.

By the way, don't use words you can't spell. You're embarra*sing yourself.

LMA,
We do our talking in the cage. Don't sit there and talk trash about one of my fighters, whom I guarantee you probably have never met or could even think about beating in the cage yourself. So please do us all a favor and do not talk about someone's fight game when you don't know how they train or how they fight. Please remember Befera fight's at 135lbs not 145lbs and all of his wins as a professional come from the 145lb weight cla*s. For a fighter who walks around at 149lbs that is impressive, I don't care who he/she is. So please do some research before you start talking about someone. If you don't know the facts, keep your mouth quiet.

LMA,
Befera has been fighting guys that weigh 10-20 lbs more than his natural weight. For the record, Brian Learn showed up owerweight for not one, but both of his fights against Befera. What does that show about his experience? Certainly someone who pours their heart and soul in to the sport would know better. Befera ended up taking both these fights anyways, and was robbed the first time around as the fight was most definitely called early.

By the way, I could have taken his arm home with me in the first fight. I let go of the pressure before the ref got to us. I looked up and saw the ref coming across the cage. actually i train with chris... who is a blue belt... which is experienced, and learn, if u knew any escapes... which i have no doubt in my mind u do, u would know the roll out of an arm bar one.. im a white belt and i know it, that is what he was doing while he was getting out of ur armbar till the ref messed it up, u want a third fight? drop to 135 and compete at his level, and not tapping and starting the escape instead of just giving up would be, considered by most of the world, as pouring there heart and sole out in that cage and show some real talent and experience...

i didnt see either fight but why doesnt everyone stop bickering and just settle it with a rubber match at a catch weight.

and personally as a blue belt i wouldn't consider being a blue belt experienced. maybe just more experienced than a white belt but thats about it.

Look all I need is the word from both Befera and Learn and I will make the fight happen sooner. I just thought a t*tle fight would hype it up a lil more. It seems that this rubber match needs no hype though. If you want to wait for the t*tle, cool. If not, thats cool too. If you want to battle it out again and then do a t*tle fight, Im game for that too. Just let me know guys and I will promote the h**l outta any fight between you two. Your both beasts in the cage and have my respect. As for the supporters of both these fighters, I have slots available on my upcoming cards if you wanna let out some of your aggression lol. 608-548-1344 lets make this happen.

First off, I want to start by giving those who spell all words correctly and use the right punctuation a gold star for pa*sing the forum spelling bee. Congratulations. Now, to get to the point:
Joel:
You state that the Befera/Learn 2 bout didn't even get out of the first round. Did you get the chance to even watch or research their first fight? Because, not only did it not leave the first round, but Befera did not even last a minute. 52 seconds in and a double pop of his arm went against Learn's nut cup. I’m sorry that Learn had respect for a fellow fighter and stopped before he dismembered Befera.
Narcdog:
Well let’s look at the facts then. You are correct that I do not know how Befera trains. I do however know how he fights. I have watched half of his pro fights, which I may add are all at 145, so how do you get off saying he fights at 135? For a fighter who walks around at 149 that is not impressive. He obviously isn’t a true fighter and able to play the game by cutting weight. I would love to see him attempt to cut to 135 and fight. I watched him cut weight for a fight against Derrek Abrhams which was at 145. Where was Befera cutting weight? Not inside the sauna, but rather inside the entry way of the sauna. Ouch, that hurts when you think you are cutting weight and haven’t even walked into the sauna yet. I may add that is quite embarra*sing also. And in regards to talking inside the cage, I am soon hoping to do so. I am not claiming that I am a fighter, I am a fan, but I have the pa*sion to fight and the killer instinct to rip apart those in my way. If Befera can drop to 135, I would love to bulk up to it and do more than “talk outside of the cage”. Unfortunately I have yet to see a mixed s*x fight. The day a promoter sponsors one of those, I will step up and ask for the match. I am unsure how Befera would take a loss to a girl, but come to think of it, I have more b***s than the kid anyways.
Dwayne:
Like I stated before, where do you guys get off saying this kid is fighting outside of his weight cla*s? I looked up Befera’s record and all I see is 145. Are we talking about elementary wrestling, because I’m pretty sure this sport is MMA. May I state, Learn however has stepped up twice in the last couple months to fight a weight cla*s above him. In doing so, he had to sacrifice his number 2 ranking in the state at 145 because he is a true warrior and challenges himself. In regards to Learn’s weighins, refer to his post. He was on weight for the 1st fight and admits that he slipped on the second. But for a fighter who walks at 160, a 15lb cut can be a b***h. A fighter who walks at 149 and can’t even cut to 145, ouch, now that is pathetic.
BuckB:
Indeed a blue belt is experienced. May I ask who Chris received this under? Because Learn received a 2 stripe blue under Royce Gracie himself, and if you want to top that experience, go right ahead. In regards to Learn taking a third fight, I hope he does! I would love to see a rematch. But in my opinion, I don’t think he should drop 20 something pounds because Chris doesn’t have the strength to fight at 145 anymore. I actually hope Learn never “competes at Befera’s level”. I would hate to see him stoop down to that level.
Hypnoticone:
I lastly want to state that you had a great submission and don’t let anyone take that from you with all this hype. I respect you as a fighter and have enjoyed watching you fight. Good luck on where the road takes you. I look forward to seeing you whoop some a*s in the cage in the future!
