After more than ten years as a professional mixed martial artist, Wisconsin Combat Sports has learned that Rob Smith has decided to retire; the man who has battled Rich "Ace" Franklin, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, and Terry Martin, most recently defeated Caleb Nelson in July.
According to Smith's trainer Duke Roufus, "He has fought some of the greatest fighters out there and won 13 of 15 since joining our team. Rob is a Wisconsin MMA pioneer."
"The Bayview Brawla", who is 20-13-1 according to Sherdog, has been a staple in the Wisconsin MMA scene since before most can remember. Check back with Wisconsin Combat Sports in the next few days for an in-depth look into the career of Rob Smith.

Rob Smith Is A Class Act I have met a lot of really nice and down-to-earth people since I began working with Duke Roufus over a dozen years ago, but none finer (or friendlier) than Rob Smith. There's just something about a smiling Rob Smith walking into our school saying "h**lo Mr. Joffe!" that makes you glad you know him. Rob is the person I think of when someone uses the phrase "he's a pro's pro" and I think all of you who know him will agree. I hope Rob remains a part of the Roufusport/Duke Roufus Academy coaching staff for many years to come as he is as knowledgeable and positive of a person anyone could hope to have around!! Congrats on hitting .867 as a member of our team Mr. Smith!! Consensus 1st ballot MMA Hall of Famer!! All the best Rob, Scott |

... I first met Rob in 1999 or so at Henry's old gym on Lincoln and KK. I'll never forget the first time he lateral dropped me, or the second, or third, or fourth time. I could barely breathe after getting the wind knocked out of me most of the time. He did the same thing to Rampage Jackson I'm pretty sure. I would like to see him pull the old Brett Favre though and see one more fight. Rob Smith vs. Sam Alvey would be the fight I'd want it to be too. Going out while being the #1 WCS 205lber is the way to go. Best of luck Rob. |

... I remember Rob saying he was done fighting a long time ago.2000-ish. Then he took another fight. He said his wife wanted a new washer/dryer. She must not need anymore appliances. Good luck in fight retirement Rob. |

... I've known Rob for years. Met him back in the 90's when my oldest son was wrestling in grade school. I wouldn't see Rob for months and the first thing outta his mouth every time we crossed paths "how's Dallas (my son)". As my youngest son became more involved in jits, he would add him to the mix. As time went on I had several opportunities to train with Rob and get to know him better. His sincerity is real and his cla*s genuine. I'm honored to say Rob's a friend and I know he'll never be far from the mats. |
