Professional Fights: In the Co-Main event of the evening Chris "Swiss" Befera would win in a tough fought split decision victory over Jake "The Bad" Omen. The first round ended with Befera connecting on several punches, dropping Omen, but Befera couldn't finish him off before the bell. The second round ended with "The Bad" Omen in full mount on Befera raining down fists. During the third and final round Befera was beating Omen with stand-up, but Omen would finish the round on the ground once again with the mount on Befera. This was a close fight between ex-training partners that was truly an up and down battle.
The Main Event started off as a frantic toe-to-toe slugfest that had the crowd going crazy. Unfortunately, after a minute and half of pure fisticuffs the fight was over. David Rhoads had to Tapout during the first round due to what appeared to be a broken wrist suffered during the barrage of punches the fighters were exchanging. It's unfortunate because neither fighter seemed to be fazed by the exchange, and it felt like we missed out on a possible Fight of the Night.
Amateur Title Fights: Bantamweight Title Fight: Rocky Delorme fought Ryan Mendez for the vacant Wisconsin Cage Fighting Amateur Bantamweight belt. As always fighters in this division are like human packages of TNT. These two fought at a frantic pace for over two and a half rounds in what was a combination of wrestling and pure scrambling. In the end it was a right hook that caught Mendez sending him to the mat where Rocky finished him with unanswered strikes. The TKO was impressive, and it showed that despite size, Rockys hands are full of Dynomite!
Welterweight Title Fight/Submission of the Night: Andrew Trace was pitted against Lenny "Smash" Nelson in a fight that would give us both an Amateur Welterweight Champ and a Submission of the Night. The first round was a back and forth battle. There were take downs, reversals, an impressive display of jiu-jitsu, and jiu-jitsu defense. The first round ended with Nelson attempting a Triangle right before the bell sounded. The second round started with Trace taking Nelson to the mat. Trace was looking for an armbar, and after what seemed like a long time finally was able to lock it in. The time it took, and the fact that Nelson was now pretty sweaty is what earned this armbar the submission of the night.
Featherweight Title Fight/Fight of the Night: "Nasty" Nick Dupees and Emillio "Where's My Money" Torres both had a noticeable level of intensity prior to the fight. Fortunately for all of the fans in attendance, this intensity would carry through all five rounds. Torres came out and inflicted some damage on Dupees in the first round and the beginning of round two but Dupees would stay calm. Dupees managed to keep his cool and not panic after taking some pretty hard shots during the first couple of rounds. Dupees fought back like a true warrior and moved ahead on the scorecard. Torres to his credit never gave up and he kept the fight very close. Both fighters pushed the pace, and pushed each other to another level. Dupees would end up taking the Amateur Featherweight Title by split-decision victory. Despite the loss Torres should hold his head high because both fighters put on one awesome fight for the fans.
Knockout of the Night: There were several impressive knockouts, including Rockys over Mendez but two of the amateur fights produced knockouts not soon forgotten. First, in what was by far the most vicious knockout of the night, David "Tank" White caught Pete "Petey Pops" Vargo with what looked to be a left hook in the first round. It was hard to tell what Vargo got caught with, but either way he was sent to the mat like a wooden plank falling over. The doctor and EMT's were in the ring checking on Vargo immediately, and thankfully the tough fighter looked to be OK. Vargo was able to leave the ring unassisted.
The second Knockout of the Night was one that took only :05 seconds. Matt "Diesel" Schaffer plotted in and connected immediately with a flurry of punches sending Mike Landvick to the mat. This one was literally over in the blink of an eye.
Honorable Mention: Pankration Bouts Lydia Trewin defeated Shannon Demeyer with brutal body shots in the second round. Also, John Morgan defeated Levi Johnson by split decision earlier in the night. What was impressive was the guts and toughness exhibited by both young fighters. Johnson did not tap despite getting caught in a nasty looking armbar at the end of the third round.

... good write up! Most of the fights were pretty good. There were some real strong amateur fights. There were some nice slams, but I can't remember by whom. Dupees always puts on a full fight it seems--makes it worth your money as a fan. Destree, you are right, the Trace vs. Nelson fight was pretty good and the reversals and takedowns really got the crowd all abuzz. The venue was nice, but a bit small. However, there wasn't a bad seat in the house. |

... My girl Lydia slammed Shannon 2 or 3 times. Most exciting pankration bout I've ever seen. Look for great things to come from this girl. Only 16 years old and already has the heart of a fighter. John Morgan also, only 15 years old and put on an amazing fight. So proud of both of these fighters. |

Wisconsin Cage Fighting delivered on all levels last night at The Wave Ballroom in Appleton WI. There was a large boisterous crowd on hand to witness Combat Grappling, Pankration, both amateur and professional MMA fights, as well as THREE Amateur Title Fights! There were your Knockouts and Submissions, but not a single fight finished in a unanimous decision, instead fight fans were greeted with several close split decision fights.
