In the next few weeks, Wisconsin is going to be jam-packed with mixed martial arts action all around the state. One of the events that will lead the way for this non-stop summer action, will be the Stateline Warrior's "King of the River 2009".

The King of the River show, held in Beloit during RiverFest, will consist of over 20 amateur fights over two separate days. The event will take place on Saturday, July 11th, and Sunday, July 12th, from 1 until 4 p.m.

The card will feature three distinct tournaments. By Sunday afternoon, three different champions will be crowned in the 135 and 155-pound weight divisions, and in the 155-pound Pancration division.

According to promoter and matchmaker, Craig Monyelle, the highlight of the event will be the 135-pound tournament. With fighters such as Matt "Ace" Acevedo from Team Thump, Floyd Hodges from Team Pitbull, and No Joke Martial Art's Charlie Powers, Monyelle said that he is expecting the fans to see some intense competition.

Brian Bagin was also scheduled to compete but was forced out of the tournament after being knocked out by a first round uppercut from Floyd Hodges during last month's Battle at the Bleachers. Monyelle said that he is hopeful that David Wuzwuz will fill the final spot of the 135-pound competition.

Along with the three tournaments, exhibitions between brothers Cameron and Chad Monyelle, and "Red Hot" Rickie Gomes and Lisa "BA" Wells will also take place. At Beloit's 2nd Cage Fights in May, Gomes showcased her skills in a bloody battle with Angel Alcozar, which was arguably the fight of the night.

The King of the River 2009 will be attempting to put its best foot forward in front of a large crowd. Monyelle's last event captured an audience of 1300 spectators. When asked what people should know about the event, Monyelle said that the crowd will be entertained with plenty of tough fights.

"This is a tournament that I am going to put on every year," Monyelle said. "Mixed martial arts at the stateline is going to be as big as anywhere else in the country. We want people to know that this thing is coming at you year in and year out. If you think that you are one of the toughest amateurs in the area, come here and prove it."
