| Anytime, Anywhere: Decorah Prepares for "Old Man" Shaner |

Some people are born to fight. It's a trait that many at the Chosen Few Gym possess. For Demian "The Coroner" Decorah, it's just another day at the office. "I'm not even thinking about the title. I'm thinking about the fight," says Decorah. "I fight because I want to fight. It doesn't matter to me if I have got titles, I just love the game." Like it or not, a title is what's up for grabs this Saturday at the "Battle at the Bleachers" event in Wind Lake. Demian Decorah (23-29-1) faces Reese "Old Man" Shaner (11-4) for the Heavyweight Championship, and he's got a message for the "Old Man." "My strategy for the fight is to take Reese into the later rounds and hopefully he dies of natural causes, being old age." Reese Shaner's record is much more intimidating than his nickname. Even though he hasn't fought in 16 months, he's 11-4 and is on a 7 fight win streak. Decorah isn't fazed, though. "I know he's on a good win streak right now, but I don't think he's fought any quality guys during that win streak." Typical bravado coming from Decorah. The list of names he's fought gives him the right to say something like that. Having fought the likes of Travis Wiuff, Mike Whitehead, Tim Boetsch, and Houston Alexander, he embodies an "Anywhere, Anytime" attitude similar to others at the Chosen Few Gym. "I'll fight anybody, it doesn't matter. I'm not scared of anybody," says Decorah. "You can't ask for any other better hard nosed guys [to work with] than Ron Faircloth, Pat O'Malley, [and] James Warfield. They're all here for ya, like we're a family." That family undoubtedly gives him more motivation than wearing the belt around his waist. "The title would mean more to my teammates than it would to me," Decorah says. "If we didn't have a trophy case here, the belt would end up in my closet." Clearly, Decorah loves the competition. He better. The guy gave up quite a job to be here. "I gave up a hundred thousand dollars a year to be probably one of the poorest fighters on the planet," he says. "I had a good gig before I started fighting, but I wasn't happy doing it, so I quit and I moved back to Wisconsin." Decorah's last fight was against the rough and tough Paul "Big Papi" Martinez at Gladiators "Clash of the Titans". In typical Decorah style, he took the fight on a week's notice and gave up more than just preparation time. "I think when I fought Paul [Martinez], I had a gameplan, and I think that gameplan would of been good if he didn't outweigh me by 60 pounds," says Decorah. Dana White has a famous phrase, “Do you want to be a [expletive] fighter?” Demian Decorah, who has fought on every Madtown Throwdown card, has wanted to be a fighter since he was 6 years old. Now 36, Decorah has matured as a fighter and as a man. His priorities have changed over the years, and beyond his gym, the title fights and bloody noses, he is still inspired by something even more important. "What inspires me to fight is my family and my kids. When I was growing up, I never have anything to be proud of, and I want my kids to be proud of their father." You've got to imagine that his daughter Raven would be pretty proud of Dad if he comes home with a big shiny belt around his waist.

... Big Papi, I'm sure Demian's game plan "end game" probably had the words "to win" in there somewhere but there may have been more to it, not sure. If it had been me the game plan would have included a net snare and heavy anchor tie-downs. ![]() I'm looking forward to seeing Reese and Demian's fight, it has been nice getting to know Reese a little but I've gotta be rooting 100% for my team-mate and friend Demian! All War Coroner! |

... 16 months and I'm back in the cage! About time... Love Demian's attitude about the fight. The title is a nice goal but it's the competitive nature of the fight that brings the warrior to battle. The warrior spirit is what keeps me in the game, at least until common sense tells me otherwise. On a side note..... whats your game plan for this weekend Demian? You can tell me, I wont tell anyone. |
