sfc2reviewSport Fighting Championship's second show at the Kettle Moraine Ice Center in West Bend, "Power of Champions" was a well organized fight card that was highlighted by a number of exciting finishes. More than half of the matches, including the main event, ended in the first round.

The first MMA fight of the night pitted heavyweights Paul Martinez and Joe Caples against one another. Both contestants train at Dukatz Academy, but decided to face one another after their original opponents backed out of the competition. The referee called a stop to the first bout after Martinez pummeled Caples with rights and lefts at 2:19 of the first round.

After the two teammates battled each other in front of their instructor Paul Dukatz, welterweights Zech Bant and Monty Cortwright stood toe to toe in the cage. Very early in the fight Bant delivered a looping overhand right that put Cortwright on the mat. After Bant landed a few more strikes to his downed opponent the referee called the fight 10 seconds into the first round.

KO of the Night
The next battle between Matt Roewer and Lonny Bower awarded the crowd with the biggest punch of the night. Both fighters had a good amount of crowd support, but Roewer's followers were able to celebrate after he landed a huge right hand to Bower's chin in the first round. After the fight, Bower had to be taken out on a stretcher for precautionary reasons. Wisconsin Combat Sports prays for his recovery.

While the night was loaded with big knockouts, a few of the combatants also showed off their solid ground games. Gracie Barra competitor Russel Jackson choked out Sean "The Angry Troll" Keacher in the first round. Also, Logan "Logie Bear" Taylor submitted Daniel "Cat Smasher" Glidewell with an arm bar near the end of round two.

Submission of the Night
The night's best display of jiu-jitsu came from Third Heaven's Shawn "The Suppressor" Uecker. In his lightweight bout with Matthias "Mattitude" Gimick, Uecker was slammed to the canvas very early in the first round. Directly after being taken down, Uecker attempted to secure a triangle leg choke. It looked as if Gimick would escape the choke, but Uecker was able to lock in the maneuver and force a submission. Gimick was visibly upset after he tapped out in the first minute of the first round.

In the final bout before the main event, middleweight Jaren "The Hitman" Kuester squared off against Kenny Booker. The first round consisted of Kuester grounding and pounding Booker for nearly the entire five minutes. But in the middle of the second round, Booker was able to catch Kuester in a guillotine choke. Kuester was irate with himself after he submitted to Booker in round two.

Main Event
Fight of the Night

The West Bend crowd cheered loudly as light heavyweights Mauricio Hernandez and Chris "The Beast" Appleton were announced. The fight began with both fighters hurrying to the center of the mat. And from that moment, Appleton showed why he was in the main event. "The Beast" displayed an amazing display of speed that Hernandez was unable to match. Appleton used good head movement and lightning quick hands as he painted the chin of Hernandez. Hernandez attempted to throw a few series of haymakers towards his opponent, but was unable to connect. At 1:01 of the first round, Appleton delivered a right and left hand combination that confused Hernandez. The referee was forced to call the fight as Hernandez remained unaware as to what had just occurred. An exuberant Appleton straddled the top of the cage and raised both arms in victory. After the fight "The Beast" thanked his fiancé and admitted that he would like to fight a few more times as an amateur before turning pro.

The SFC's second show in West Bend was definitely a success. The night was filled with a good crowd, good fights, and an exciting buzz that filled the Kettle Moraine Ice Center.
