jameelIn his WEC debut, Jameel Massouh did not fight up to his potential, but he vows to unveil the real Jameel in August against Leonard Garcia.

In April, Massouh (21-5 MMA, 0-1 WEC) lost to Rafael Assuncao (13-1 MMA, 1-0 WEC) in a grueling 15-minute battle. But Massaoh insists that he was not himself in his first fight under the bright lights.

"I have fought at big venues in front of big crowds before," Massouh said. "But I really wanted to do well against a top 10 fighter in my weight class, and I let the pressure get to me."

And while "The Real Deal" was not overly excited with his debut in the organization, the WEC was impressed enough to give Jameel a shot against one of the world's toughest 145 pound competitors.

On August 9, Massouh and Garcia will meet on the main card at WEC 42 in Las Vegas. Jameel said that he understands the importance of the fight.

"Leonard Garcia and I will be a great fight. He is a scrapper. Everyone knows who he is in the mixed martial arts world. He's a famous guy, so beating him would catapult me to the top of the division."

Before Massouh's loss to Assuncao, he had reeled off five straight victories. He said that in order to begin a new winning streak, he needed to change the way he trained.

"Before my last fight I was back and forth between a lot of places," exclaimed Massoh. "This time I'm really focused on staying at Dave Strasser's camp in Kenosha at the Freestyle Academy, I'm only training there right now."

And besides training exclusively at the Freestyle Academy, Massouh has also revamped his training techniques.

"I started training immediately after the Assuncao fight. I've been working on improving my striking, and working on some things that I should have done better [during] my last fight."

"I'm just training hard for my fight, and everyone's going to see a whole different fight from me the next time around."

I agree that the first WEC fight didn't showcase Jameel's true potential; he is more aggressive and his hands more devastating than he let on in that fight. smilies/cool.gif I am looking forward to this next fight!! Good luck Jameel!

Jameel, you are a great training partner and an even better friend. Go live your dream, knock Garcia off, and now you are ranked one of the top ten in the world. Something I already know, you are a star, go shine.
