GRAFTON, WI: Since its inception last year in the spare room at Form and Fitness Gym, Riptide Grappling has been constantly striving to expand, relocate and widen their scope. They’ve now turned those 100 square feet of mat space into a 2100 square foot facility with 1200 square feet of mat space, brand new Swain mats and a bevy of new classes.
The gym now aims to offer classes seven days a week – not only Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA (Mixed Martial Arts), but also Judo, wrestling, self-defense, kids’ instruction, yoga and more. Instructors Luke Summerfield and Perry Wirth specialize in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, while Greg Roloff will be taking the reins in the Judo program, but shares the duty of kids’ instruction with wrestling coach Matt Fujinaka.
In addition to the move, Riptide will also be undergoing a change of names: as a satellite school of head instructor, Jon Friedland’s Neutral Ground Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Riptide seeks to further integrate their program with Friedland’s and will be henceforth known as Neutral Ground North. This communion will offer students more opportunity to work directly with Friedland (one of four Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belts in Wisconsin), visit his charter school on Milwaukee’s East Side and further spread Friedland’s highly technical style of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Neutral Ground North is also seeking to become greatly involved in the community through a number of seminars and training for community groups in the Ozaukee county area, including: Mothers of Ozaukee County, the Rec Center, as well as hand-to-hand combative training for local law enforcement agencies. In an effort to promote programming and increase their presence in the area, Neutral Ground North is also offering one-week trial memberships to all local residents.
Full classes at the new Neutral Ground North will begin May 25th, with a grand opening planned for June 20th which will include a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu seminar taught by head instructor Jon Friedland. It will only cost you 3 canned food items to attend the seminar, which will be donated to the Hunger Task Force of Wisconsin.
