Karen Williams of Team Ruff Dawg sought to avenge a TKO losses she suffered at the hands of Minnesotan Jessica Bednarek in September of last year. At the end of a twenty-five minute National Combat Association title fight, Bednarek was awarded a lopsided unanimous decision. Judge's scores: 119-109, 120-108, 120-108.
Williams won her first three fights, all in the Gladiators Fighting promotion, finishing all of her opponents with strikes. She then lost her last three fights, and until last Saturday, all of her fights had ended in three minutes or less.
Josh Kasee, 2-0, 1 NC, of Green Bay's Haus of Combat went the distance with Madison's Seth Marquez of Heavy Hitters, and earned a unanimous decision (77-75, 77-75, 75-76) in the pro bantamweight bout.
Marquez, has seen a busy year, having fought once a month this year, including a unanimous decision loss to Chico Camus three weeks prior to the Kasee fight. Marquez is now 2-2 in 2009.
In January of this year, Kasee battled Roufusport's Dan LaSavage in a bantamweight title fight at Combat USA - Superbrawl XX. The bout was ruled a "no contest" after LaSavage was injured by an accidental finger poke to the eye.

just to clarify... the fight between josh kasee and seth marquez wasn't a unanimous decision, it was a split, and the result drew boos from the crowd, as marquez took down kasee at will and controlled the fight, a very controversial decision to say the least... |

I want a rematch... Hands down I won that fight, it helps when you have the promoter of the fight in your corner yelling at the ref to stand the fight up the whole time, which I might add the ref paid no attention to because I stayed busy, but I can't help but feel that his presence swayed the judges decision, if you look at the score the first judge ruled I won the fight 77-75, but the next two refs saw it completely different, no disrespect to Josh, but he could do nothing with me especially when I took him down, which was very very frequent, the crowd's response to the decision was an overwhelming wall of boo's, I guess that's what you get when you leave it up to the judges, JOSH IF YOU ARE READING THIS...I'LL TAKE A REMATCH AS SOON AS YOU'VE GOT THE BALLS TO TAKE IT!!!! LET'S FIGHT HERE IN WISCONSIN AND LET THE HOME CROWD SEE WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!!!! THIS TIME I WILL FINISH YOU!!!! |

The TRUE facts The truth of the fight between Marquez and Kasee is this. Marquez dominated the fight from the top on the ground, with relentless ground and pound and take downs that could not be stopped by Kasee. The judges ruled the bout a "Split" decision for Kasee with a score card of 77-75 (Kasee), 77-75 (Marquez), 77-76 (Kasee, which was a ridiculous ruling in this fans opinion. I won't take away from Kasee that he had good striking abilities from the feet but, Marquez deserved to win this fight, hands down. This fight was politically motivated to say the least, the promoter and owner of Combat USA, was in the corner of Josh Kasee...talk about influence, come on folks, we all know what happens when that is the case now dont' we? Now I'm just a fan, BUT I do go to ALL the local shows and to be honest with you all, the better fighter did not win this bout, and should have. The promoter and judges can say they have no "commitment" to one another or any fighters, but who do you think pays them? I saw this with Marquez's split over Schaumberg awhile back, same story, Marquez dominated but Schaumberg won, hmmmmm wonder why? I enjoy our local shows but this was truly heartbreaking to watch, therefore why the fans erupted with a series of boo's for Kasee. Even Kasee knew he didn't win that bout, you could tell by the look on his face, but I guess he can thank the promoter for this victory. Now don't get me wrong here, I don't have any affiliation with either fighter and could of cared less who won as long as there was a good show put on, but I do like FAIR shows and this kid was robbed in front of a crowd of thousands. A re-match is necessary in my opinion and if it happens, I see a truly different result, with a victory leaning towards Marquez. Josh I apologize if I offended you, but in reality you know you lost this one. You have good abilities as a fighter but this wasn't a true victory, in ANYONE's opinion. |

Fight Manager My guy is in the Hard Knocks club. He just joined it off the streets 4 days before that fight. No training or anything. Just a bunch of street fights under his belt. I was unable to attend but I heard he went right after his opponent trying to knock him out right away but got choked out. I like the idea he made a guy go to his ground game. My fighter is Brad Wilson. He needs to join a good group and get some training. In a year, this guy is going to be a monster, but he needs to train and I need to find a home for him starting now. Please contact me as I am his manager and am helping him the whole way through his career. It's gonna be a good one. Please email me with club info and what arrangements we can make to have him fight out of your club. Thanks, Nate Nelson |

... I will take the blame for Adam Sandoval being in Josh Kasee's corner. I had to work friday everyone was leaving at 1, i didnt get done til 4:30 and couldnt make it. Josh had asked me on friday on my lunch break if i would be able to corner him, i said i'd try but couldnt promise anything. Adam does not like cornering guys on his own shows because of this type of thing. He was training me back in Nov.-Dec. in 07 if it was on his show he did not want to corner me. I had asked adam if i was unable to make it if he could jump in my spot and corner josh, and beau degroot. It is hard for a guy to go out there and fight with someone in his corner that he does not know and has never met before. You get used to hearing your cornermans voice and it is easy to block everything else out and listen when u have heard that voice a million times. Josh and Beau did not know anyone else up there that had any experience being in someones corner, So adam jumped in and and helped these guys out. I think it is crazy to think that the judges could be paid off, or swayed to have the back of one fighter over another. The judges are professional and have been doing their jobs for a long time. It comes down to one thing dont leave the fight in the judges hands and there is no way you can be dissapointed. If seths ground and pound was that great why was the ref not thinking about stopping the fight? If seth was that dominant on the ground why was he unable to finish josh? no disrespect to either fighter, or any fighter but if you dont want the fight to go to the judges scorecard dont let it and finish your opponent and you wont have anything to bitch about besides your hangover you wake up with after partying all night after you have won a hard fought fight with a good opponent. I hope these two do re-match and knowing josh im sure they will. Congrats to all of the fighters that fought last weekend |

... This is the second controversial fight in a row for Kasee. Not that it's his fault, it just sounds like the judging and refing up there is out of control. Is that 2 pro fights on this card? The last show had one pro fight. That says something. Who complained about lack of coverage for this show? |

... I was there, I do sometimes train with Josh. Now having said that, Kasee pushed the pace of the fight on the feet. I know BJJ/Grappling heads think take-downs are the shit, but rocking people in the grill is what CombatUSA is about(Even the UFC is leaning towards dominant striking). Marquez had some great takedowns and G&P. U guys fail to mention Kasee's stuffing numerous attempts, and rocking the shit out of Marquez. At one point he was laying face down(due to punches) and just hung on to Josh's leg until he gathered himself. Knowing that stalling will get you back on your feet is every bit of a strategy as is takedowns, cause you can't or won't stand and bang.----DVD---- will come out. Make up your own minds then. Cameras don't lie. Congrats to both guys on great effort. |

... First of all I would like to say how outrageous it is to think I or any promoter that pays to have the BEST staff of Judges and Officials in WI could get them to sway a call for us. And you should be careful of what you accuse people of! For 4 years I have been holding fights and see alot of the smaller promotions doing alot of things wrong!! But Duke ( who taught me what I know ) , Mike of EFC and myself pay alot of money to bring you guys the best staff! So good that the UFC uses them, To think they would risk that is outrageous! Second this staff has Ruled against my guys plenty of times in my past 30 fights.... Josh won that fight Fair and square.. It was a split,t as is should have been.. I told josh if he were to lose there would be no crying on here, or at the fight because it was that close and if you really are that much better then the guy you are fighting then it should never go to the judges.. Just finish it if you can, if you CANT then judges make the call.. Seth put up a good fight and had some great takedowns.. in my opinion he did not do enough damage on the ground. and Josh did pick him apart on the feet ,dropping him a few times..I am sorry to see seth being so unprofessional on here. As far as a rematch I am sure Josh would have no problem with it.. But does a promotion want to book fighters that complain when they cant finish a close fight and blame it on everyone but himself? I will do it anyhow...There are a ton of fighter out here that fight hard every fight and sometimes lose that split... But they carry there heads proud and high like professionals.. Sorry to see that is not the case here.. There was plenty of cheering and booing as you will have on any split.... This is the sport we all love and those that have been around know how it goes... But it is sad to see a fighter blame everyone but himself for not finishing a fight that to himself he clearly thinks he was winning.. Anyhow so let me get this straight the ref did not listen to me to stand it up... but the judges all but one gave the fight to josh for me? These people take there job vary seriously and the words you say should be thought about... Because all the guys here on this site that fight in WI know they are the best staff around.. They have been doing this a LONG time... I say this to defend the officials.. Alot of you know me and I do not need to defend myself as you know I run clean fair fights.. And as for Josh Congats!!! You earned it in MANY eyes.. . As for rematch I will be happy to give it to you. Your manager said he loved the fights and hoped his guys represented well enough to have them back.. And they did! including you Seth you did put on a great fight.... Seth Just blaming everyone you can think of it makes you and your team look bad.. I know this is your first fight with me but a ton of fighters on here have fought for me over the years and they know I run some of the best shows around. We have done all ammy shows and Huge pro cards aswell, it all depends on the venue and fans.. I am the only one around that has brought fighters like Rick Roufus and UFC fighter Patrick Barry here for WI fans to see.. I have seen alot of new promotions come and go and make all kinds of mistakes... But the fighters in WI are hungry and professional and they fight hard so we will continue to do the best we can for them.... Oh and if you or anyone els ever gets stuck at a fight without a corner..... I would be happy to help in any way I can... The Fans love the new style its just something a little different.. I dont think we had one stand up from the ground do to passivity this night so Congats to all the fighters for fighting diligently... |

... just for the record to the 1 or 2 people questioning the posted results.... This is the official results from the promotion staff... the same results that went to Sherdog and MMA.tv.... we were simply CC'ed on the submission. (which I wish ALL promoters would do from now on) So, if they are wrong... that's something that will have to be taken up with the promotion who submitted them. |

... I think Adam's point about about how one would like to finish the fight and NOT put it in the judges hands is a good point. Although this might not always be possible when you have good fighters paired up, putting the fight in the judges hands and leaving it to their disgression can cause mixed feelings on split decisions. nnI do have to say, the two CombatUSA events I have been to that have used the hybird rules, I did enjoy a lot! nI thought it was fast paced action and made for some good fights....nnBUTnnI personally don't think these fights should go on someone's MMA record... because it's not pure MMA. nIt favors the standing game (which can make for some good KO's), and there are a bunch of rounds. n... fun to watch, but not pure MMA... therefore I don't think they should be on their records.n(not to mention in a regulated MMA state these fights would never fly... )n |

... I don't know anything about an underground rave promoter. I just know Brad Wilson made me proud that he went in for the first time and went after it. With training, he'll get better and tighten everything up a bit. I'm looking for help for him. I guess instead of me being happy that Cody took him to the ground instead of standing with Brad, I should be upset that he went in swingin' and came out a loser? I'm not at all. He did good for his first and I'm proud of him. He is an up and comer and he's gonna be damn good. He is suppose to be fighting at 185 as well. He went in heavy and took whatever fight he could straight off the streets. He wants to keep going and needs training. And he had large respect for Cody and his club. If I botched the wording by stating "made a guy go to his ground game" I'm sorry. As a manager, don't you want to stay positive? I didn't wanna tell Brad, "Well, looks like this isn't for you. Maybe you should try curling. It's less violent" Of course I'm going to take all the positive out of his first fight no matter how quick it was. Any help with training anywhere would be appreciated. He really needs it. No offense to Cody or his club. You guys have a really good club, and Brad loved the experience and hopes to see you guys again at future shows. All I wanted to do is give Brad some credit. |

KASEE/MARQUEZ...RE-MATCH Promoters of Combat USA...please re-match Kasee and Marquez, sooner rather than later, I think a 2nd part of that fight would be what all MMA fans want to see. I did give my opinions on the fights, but I think that is what we all did, strongly give OUR opinions. Sure Seth sounded mad in his post and to a point, I don't blame him. On the other hand you are correct, he shouldn't of said anything other than " I WANT A RE-MATCH!" end of story and let us MMA fans do all the bickering and fighting for him, that is what we as fans do. You also mentioned that he has a manager, If that is true and he is reading this how do you feel about what your fighter did? Do I think it was unprofessional on Marquez's part though? Not at all, I think it's a pissed off fighter who feels he probably got cheated and let his emotions get the best of him at the moment. That is what makes them great fighters though, EMOTION don't you agree? The totality of this is, it DOES NOT MATTER anymore!!! MOVE ON FROM IT! A re-match would be what we ALL want to see between these two warriors!! Seth, Josh, keep your heads up guys and fight your asses off like you did that night, it'll be worthy of the money myself and others spend on our tickets!! No matter who wins or loses, just battle like you should be battling and you'll be victorious, in one way or another. I do believe the next Combat USA show is in Green Bay, WI towards the end of May? If this is correct, LET'S DO IT GUYS!!! GET THAT RE-MATCH ON THE CARD AND PUT ON A SHOW!!! |

... I appreciate that Mike. I would love for him to get involved with your club. You guys are SO far up north though. We're in Appleton and it's such a haul. I wish I would have been there to meet you guys and talk about Brad a bit more. There's just something in him. I just don't know if he can relocate that far. With his respect for you guys, had your club been closer, he would have wanted to get in by you guys and learn as much as he could as fast as he could. He already wants to fight again! But we want some training first, and get him to the weight he should be. He's eager and just needs to calm down a little bit. It's gonna take awhile to tweak his technique. His style of coming out guns blazin' scares me, and I knew he was gonna do that right when he called me during the day before the fights and told me there was a knock out bonus. I just told him to do what ever he felt like doing this time. That's great that Cody is moving down too. Brad wanted a rematch right away but I again explained to him, we're gonna need some time. We'll see you in some shows soon. If he aint fightin' in the near future, we can still catch up with you guys if you have some guys fighting. We'll come support Cody and the others. Let me know of as many upcoming shows as you know of or the best websites to search for upcoming amatuer events. Doesn't matter what organization. Just anything in Wisconsin and surrounding states. ... I agree that thing were probably said by emotion.. From my experience the fighters that control there emotion do the best in the sport.. If you go in hot headed thats when you make mistakes.. My advice to both fighters would be go in cool and calm on the rematch.. As for comments on hybrid MMA, I am glad you like the style! we have had GREAT response.. But remember not to long ago 3 5s was not pure mma it was 1 round long.. And outlawed my most states.. But some people (UFC) fine tuned it and got (not all) more states to allow it.. We have in-fact talk to a few states and they see no problem with the structure.. Which I was a bit concerned about aswell... We are happy to say we do have a few promotions in a couple states looking at switching there rules aswell! So who knows ?? maybe we will be seeing more soon!! We do have a Pay Per View event on Aug 5th in Sturgis during bike week! We have some Huge UFC Names we are working on getting in.. Cant tell the names at this time but keep your ears open.. We thank all who support this sport weather it be 5 min or 2 min rounds you all are HUGE assets to the growth... We know it is not for everyone and that is ok.. I still enjoy watching the BJJ you see in 5s ( its amazing for people that know what they are looking at). And it looks like Hybrid mma is here to stay.. The UFC did choose to recognize Pats Hybrid mma fights as MMA aswell.. I think having both styles is great for the sport, Gives people a chance to shine whichever style they may be best at!! As for the rematch I will see what I can do this week. |

AGREED I agree with your assessment on this Adam. I too like the hybrid rules and like to see guys who would not normally shine on the ground, shine on their feet. If anything it really mixes it up alot and I think fans love to see good fights, no matter what. You are also correct in saying that emotion needs to be controlled at all times, especially at the professional level, again I am no bigger fan of Marquez than that of Kasee, I just called it as I saw it, no more, no less. As for the rematch I truly hope you can make this happen between these two, it will be a battle that no one will forget, IF they keep cool heads like you said. Sounds like they are both plenty pissed and it will make for an AWESOME fight, in my opinion and many others as well. Let us know if this happens and the details that go with it, myself and alot of other people I've spoken to want tickets in the front for this one! |
