{mosimage} Eventually, the athletes start breaking the four-foot mark, and they step onto the mat with more intensity in their eyes. These are the groomed, maturing judokas. The best of them explode into action without thought or hesitation, and several matches are settled with one swift move. You can see it, when you witness it before your eyes, the power that can be channeled when one commits to the techniques of judo. It's a power that, although is often contained within a point-sport tournament, can be unleashed in any situation that requires it, be it on the street or in a cage. Perhaps we'll see more of the latter when the barrier that exists in the U.S. between judo and jiujitsu/MMA breaks down. Until then, stay tuned to Wisconsin Combat Sports for upcoming tournaments and check out our Gym Listings sections for dojos in your area.

Had you walked into the gymnasium at Milwaukee Lutheran High School yesterday, you wouldn't have found young wrestlers in singlets and headgear, but a legion of judokas in gis and belts. About one-hundred and fifty of them, from throughout Wisconsin and Illinois. They converged on the Wahadachi Tournament to test their mettle and judo grip. It wasn't a crucial qualifier or eliminator, just another chance to play the game.
